If you look closely at the sand in Lihue and Kapaa, it’s not coral or shells, it’s mini plastic pieces. It reminds be of a documentary I saw about a scientist searching the South Pacific for a supposed “plastic island” with all the garbage from the US. They didn’t find it, but they did find patches of the ocean with plastic particles floating that were many feet deep. 
I was thinking that it would be nice if our hotel organized a beach clean up once a week. I bet they could get hotel guests to help. We have to keep Kauai beautiful for everyone!
On a totally different note, I saw Kristin and Freya today at Anini Beach! They are on vacation here too until Saturday. It’s a small world.
