Birch Bay

We drove up to Birch Bay this morning, which is a few miles from the Canadian border. The tide at the beach is really dramatic, and you can walk out a few hundred meters looking for crabs, clams, and sand dollars. All of the Grout’s have memories of vacationing at Birch Bay as kids so they showed us where they used to stay and hang out. It was a fun day and I wish we had had more time on the beach!

Birch Bay at low tide.

We walked out to the water and it was super warm!

With cousin Jade.

The house my great aunt owned and where my dad and his siblings stayed as kids on the beach.

  1. Actually, that's the cabin that your Great-Grandfather built and that we vacationed in as kids. There was a kind of long shed alongside that was called the "bunk house" where we slept in cots and sleeping bags. Across the street was Aunt Dot's cabin, it became a nice house to live in. Not so much a "cabin" for vacationing.
