Chamarita and CCS

HMB celebrates a Portuguese festival every year called the Chamarita. It is a celebration of Queen Isabella saving the Azore Islands from famine many many years ago. As a tradition, the IDES Society in HMB and neighboring town Pescadero chooses a queen to honor and help remember Queen Isabella. This year the Pescadero queen was one of my players! Ally, who is a fierce hitter and pitcher who doesn't smile, walked beaming down Main Street in a gown and crown. Her two little sisters (also softball players) held her sign announcing her entrance. So cool and a piece of small town living!


In other softball news, we had the CCS playoff and seed meeting today. My team is ranked #2 in Division III (some would say the toughest division), and we drew a first round bye. All good news and we have a really good shot of taking the tournament. Our toughest rivals (Hillsdale from our league) are on the other side of the bracket.

Now the hard part is waiting until Saturday to play! The first round is on Wednesday, so everyone else will play then. We are planning to train hard and have an unofficial scrimmage on this week to get a few extra at bats in before the game. The girls are really excited and so am I. We have to work hard this week and stay focused because we want a Championship Parade down Main Street (per tradition, a couple other teams had parades this year for winning CCS).
