Traveling to Madrid

We took the train this morning to Madrid. It was a smooth trip, only about two and a half hours. We checked into Hotel Santo Domingo which is in the Centro park of town. The Centro is a huge shopping area filled with tourists and stores from all over the world.
On the Train

We had a solid half day of sight seeing, which is great because Madrid is a big city with so much to see. Madrid feels like a city that never sleeps. The buildings are old and there a squares filled with people every couple of blocks.
In the Centro

Our first stop was the Palacio Royal, home of the Spanish kings. It is big and impressive, but no where near as ornate as Versailles. The French make the Spanish palaces look like a normal home!

Not nearly as much gold as the French.

I was really excited to see the Mercado San Miguel. It is a market place with about 20 different vendors each selling different tapas. Syd sampled the wine while I ate a bag of churros.

Delicious!

Right next store is the Plaza Mayor. This photo doesn't do it any justice as to how big the plaza really is.

More tomorrow from Madrid!
