Lisbon

So far Lisbon is awesome! We flew in around noon and have been in aw ever since. The city is on a bay, made up of seven hills, has cable cars, and has a golden bridge made by the same designer as the Golden Gate. It feels just like home, except a little warmer and a totally different language. 

We are staying in a boutique hotel, right in the heart of the old city. The room is small, but light and airy, and has a wrap around balcony with a view.

The bathroom is hilarious, it is basically an airstream trailer in the middle of the room. It works great though, so no complaints!

We walked around the Lisbon’s version of the Embarcadero. The huge square has a giant screen set up for World Cup viewing. It was lively and full of people drinking and cheering. 

For lunch we went to the Mercado (our favorite!) and it has a bunch of different stalls with different types of food and drink. Tried two different seafood places and they were on point. We liked it so much we went back for dinner. We also tried the pizza and two different dessert places. I am not sure if we will actually eat anywhere else in the city because everything we tried was so good...

We saw a cathedral up a hill while walking down by the water. We started to walk toward it and it looked like a mini Notre Dame. For 2 euros we got to climb the stairs and see the stained glass window up close. 

Last thing about today. We tried the famous Portuguese custard tarts today. Woah, they are really good. I don’t love the texture of custard, but the flakey crust is excellent, and you can taste the brown sugar. I’m excited to go to the bakery in the morning!
