Foot and Ferry

We walked over 16 miles all over Sydney today!!!

This morning we started our day with a 3 mile run at 5:30am in the harbor. We ran out to the point with the Opera House and then back.

We had such a good workout that Syd has been stretching his calves all over the city.

After a little breakfast, we got out of the rain by taking the Opera House Tour. It was built in the 60s by an architect from Denmark. During the construction, he ended up getting kicked off the project and never saw the finished building! We couldn’t take too many photos of inside the different concert halls and stages because there were a lot of rehearsals going on, but it was cool to see the shapes of the ceilings for the acoustics. In the actual Opera theater the ceiling is shaped just like the roof of a mouth. This way is is an extension of the singer and they don’t have to use a microphone. I thought that was pretty impressive.

We were able to see the tiles of the sails up close. Turns out they are off white and kind of a tan color so they don’t blind you when you look at the building. They are made out of ceramic and are self cleaning

After the tour we took a ferry out to Manly, a beach neighborhood in the north of Sydney. Syd was super jealous of the surfers, but he will get his turn to surf soon enough! Manly had a different vacation feel than the big city. We had fish and chips for lunch and smoothies before taking the 20min ferry back.

From the ferry dock, we literally walked all over the entire city. We saw the shopping district, China town, and Darling Harbor. All different neighborhoods with their own personalities.

Crossing the street is dangerous with cars on the wrong side of the road!

Tonight we are flying north to Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Tomorrow we will look for more adventures!
