12u Champions

Today was championship day in the 12u Burbank softball league. The tournament was double elimination and the Shockers had to win 3 games to win the title. I wasn't sure what to expect from the day because my team is a little up and down, and we had lost to all the teams in our bracket.

The girls brought their big bats today and we killed all the teams we faced. We won all the games, including the championship game, by at least 4 runs. All of our pitchers pitched and contributed. Our catcher hit two homeruns, and our shortstop made some heads up plays up the middle to save runs. My team impressed me!

Before the championship game, the girls were stoked. They were dancing and singing, even though it was 50 degrees (the coldest it has been here in months, we are babies here in LA, I was wearing 4 layers and still freezing. How did I survive living in Maryland?!). Finally in the last inning we had two outs and the girls kept asking, are we winning? What happens if this girl gets out? I had to tell them that they were supposed to storm the field, screaming and hugging each other. When the final batter struck out, the girls went NUTS, just as instructed. I think that is one of the best feelings in sports, when you win a game and only you and your teammates understand how hard you worked to accomplish your goal and you finally get to enjoy the moment. It gives me goosebumps.

After the game all the families went to a pizza restaurant for dinner and we gave out the winning medals. The girls had cupcakes with green frosting, and Dave, the head coach, slammed one into our pitcher's face! I made sure I stayed away from the frosting so someone didn't get the same idea for me.


It was a fun night, but now I am exhausted! I don't plan to do anything ambitious tomorrow. My bed is calling.
