This huge wooden door opens up into a corridor with slippery marble floor. Syd and I have already tripped twice.
The elevator is a little precarious. It only holds 360km... better watch the gelatto. Not sure when was the last time this thing was inspected.
Our room is actually pretty spacious. It reminds me of our apartment at home because it has high ceilings and the window opens on to the main street. The traffic serenades you to sleep. At least the homeless guy with the bugle didn't follow us from Pasadena.
My favorite part of the room is the chandelier. We currently have wet clothes hanging from it... story to follow.
The shower looks like a combination of a spaceship/time machine.
After we settled in we walked down the street to the Castle of St. Angelo. It used to be the home of Herod, but was taken over by the Catholic church. Pope Paul III converted it into his apartment and the monument is an interesting combination of Roman and Catholic history. The castle is now a museum and has some of the oldest stuff I have ever seen on display. We saw bronze masks that are dated back to 700AD. Unfortunately, photos were not allowed.
The top of the castle has an amazing view of Rome. You can see the Pantheon, Colosseum, and St. Peter's Square.
While walking back to our B&B from dinner, we were happily eating gelatto when it started to drizzle. We didn't think much of it and figured it would pass until it started to pour down on us in sheets. Our attempt to wait it out was shorted by our impatience and we made a run for it. Three blocks later we were soaking wet and now have clothes hanging everywhere to dry.

Glorious trip - your blog is the BEST!
